British actor Adrian Lester trained at the Birmingham Youth Theatre, Joseph Chamberlain VI Form College and the Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts (RADA) in London.

On the big screen, Lester has been seen in "The Grey Lady" with Eric Dane, "All Is by My Side," the horror thriller "Case 39," alongside Renée Zellweger and Ian McShane, Mike Nichols' political comedy "Primary Colors," starring John Travolta and Emma Thompson, for which Lester was nominated for a Chicago Film Critics Association award for Most Promising Newcomer, Kenneth Branagh's "Love's Labour's Lost" and "As You Like It," Roland Emmerich's disaster film "The Day After Tomorrow," starring Dennis Quaid and Jake Gyllenhaal, "Dust" with Joseph Fiennes, Neil Marshall's "Doomsday," opposite Rhona Mitra and Bob Hoskins, "Starting Out in the Evening," alongside Frank Langella and Lauren Ambrose, "Born Romantic," opposite Craig Ferguson and Ian Hart, and "Maybe Baby," starring Hugh Laurie and Joely Richardson.

On US television, Lester had recurring roles in BBC America's "London Spy," FOX's "The Red Band Society" and UPN's "Girlfriends."

On UK television, Lester is best known for starring as Michael Stone in BBC's crime drama series "Hustle." He also starred in ITV's adventure drama "Bonekickers" and made appearances in episodes of "Merlin," "Being Human," "The Ghost Squad," "Afterlife," "Silent Witness" and "The Bill," as well as the telefilms "Storm Damage" and "Sleep with Me."

Onstage, Lester has performed in productions of "Red Velvet" in both New York and London, for which he was nominated for an Oliver Award and won the Critics Circle Award for Best Actor, "Othello" at the Royal National Theatre in the title role for which he won the Evening Standard Theatre Award Winner for Best Actor, "Cat on a Hot Tin Roof" in the West End, "Henry V" at the Royal National Theatre in the title role, "Hamlet," directed by Peter Brook, in the title role at Bouffes de Nord and for the world tour, "Company" at Donmar Warehouse for which he won an Olivier Award for Best Actor in a Musical, "Sweeney Todd" at the Royal National Theatre for which he was nominated for an Olivier Award for Best Supporting Actor in a Musical, "Six Degrees of Separation" at the Royal Court, and "As You Like It" at Cheek by Jowl for which he was nominated for an Olivier Award for Best Actor.

Lester was awarded with an OBE in the New Years Honours List in 2013.
