AJ Thouvenot from "Project Runway" is one of the designers competing in Season 8 of the Lifetime reality fashion design competition series. AJ ("Project Runway 8") is from St. Louis, Missouri, and is 26 years old.
The first garment AJ Thouvenot ever made was a tunic made out of rubber exercise bands that did not survive its first wearing. He first realized that he had potential as a designer when people showed interest in the costumes he made for drag queens and other local club performers. He has a BFA in fashion design from Lindenwood University and did a design internship at Heatherette NYC. He currently works as a designer for fashion label TrashBiscuit and does part-time retail sales at Sole and Blues STL. In the past, he has been a salesperson at American Apparel and Aldo Shoes.
When he's designing, he likes listening to Britney Spears, Kylie Minogue, Uffie, Niki Minaj, Ke$ha, Muse, Katy Perry, Jefree Star. He thinks bling is a fashion must. He loves lots of jewelry. He says he is avant-garde and forward thinking and that his clothes have a playful element. He also says he makes event-based clothes and sometimes find it difficult to make more typical day clothes.
His design influences include rave culture and the underground club scene, pop and rock music, and tabloid culture. His favorite designers are Heatherette, Jeremy Scott, and John Galliano.
