Akbar Gbajabiamila hosts NBC and Esquire Network's reality competition series "American Ninja Warrior," along with Matt Iseman and Jenn Brown. Gbajabiamila also co-hosts the Esquire spin-off series "Team Ninja Warrior."

In addition, Gbajabiamila was a member of The Football Players, one of the teams racing through Morocco in the ABC reality competition series "Expedition Impossible."

A Southern California native, Akbar Gbaja-Biamila has parlayed a five-year stint in the National Football League into a career in television as a host and actor.

Gbajabiamila is one of seven children of Nigerian immigrants. His first name means "great" in Arabic and his last name means "big man come save me," which derives from his paternal great-great-grandfather — an impressive man who stood seven feet tall and was the moderator in the village in which he lived.

Gbajabiamila has always lived an active lifestyle, one that combined social consciousness with athletic success. An undrafted NFL free agent in 2003, Gbajabiamila signed with the Oakland Raiders and spent two seasons with the silver and black before moving on to spend time with both the San Diego Chargers and the Miami Dolphins.

The whole time he was in professional football, Gbajabiamilawas looking for what was next in his non-playing career and how he could use his skills and assets to help others. In 2005, he was selected as one the NFL's first athletes to join their Broadcast Boot Camp, which was held at NFL Films in Mount Laurel, NJ, and designed to give 20 players a short and rigorous look into the skills needed to embark on a broadcast or journalism career after their playing days were over.

After retiring from football in 2008, Gbajabiamila turned his focus to television, serving as an analyst for the NFL Network and joining "American Ninja Warrior." In 2012, he co-starred in the Funny or Die skit "Internet Cops with Nnamdi Asomugha."

Gbajabiamila recently starred in his first feature film, "The Sac Fly," a socially conscious movie about a child's life placed in the hands of a hateful man

Gbajabiamila also volunteers with the athletics program at his high school alma mater and works with the youth mentoring program Athletes for Education.

Gbajabiamila is married with four kids and a dog.
