Alex Morgan is a soccer player competing at the 2012 London Summer Olympics for the USA.

Blessed with a tantalizing blend of speed, touch and a nose for goal to go along with her supermodel looks, 22-year-old Alex Morgan is already taking the soccer world by storm and eager to hang a gold medal around her neck in her debut Olympics.

After serving as a reserve for the U.S. women's national team since her debut in March 2010, Morgan finally earned a place as a starter early in 2012 and has emerged as the team's top goal scorer with 12 goals and seven assists in 11 matches since the start of the year. Morgan notched two goals and two assists in her first start against Canada in the final of the CONCACAF Olympic qualifying tournament on Jan. 29, 2012, and registered her first career hat trick against Sweden in the third-place match of the Algarve Cup in March.

Morgan's star turn on the pitch has quickly led to a bevy of promotional and entertainment opportunities away from it. Perhaps most notably, Morgan posed for a body paint photo shoot in the vaunted Sports Illustrated swimsuit issue, which hit newsstands on Feb. 14.

Morgan served exclusively as a reserve at the 2011 World Cup in Germany, but her status as a substitute did not mean she lacked for big moments. Morgan sealed the U.S.'s semifinal win over France with an 82nd-minute goal, her first ever at a World Cup. She then came up with a go-ahead goal in the final against Japan that briefly handed the U.S. a second-half lead, celebrating with a knee slide and primal roar that would become one of the lasting American images from the World Cup.

Morgan had a standout career at the University of California, her senior year being named a finalist for the Hermann Trophy, given annually to collegiate soccer's top player. Her true breakout performance, though, came at the 2008 Women's Under-20 World Cup, where she earned both the Bronze Shoe as the tournament's third-leading scorer and the Silver Ball as the tournament's second-best overall player behind U.S. teammate Sydney Leroux. Morgan parlayed that performance into a spot with the senior national team in early 2010, and has since seen a steady rise in fame, popularity and, of course, goals.

Morgan's boyfriend is fellow soccer player Servando Carrasco, who plays for Major League Soccer club Seattle Sounders FC, convenient for Morgan, who plays for the Seattle Sounders women's club. The two met in 2007 during Morgan's freshman season at the Cal.

Although she has never ridden a motorcycle, Morgan has a motorcycle license. She wanted to get a Vespa scooter while in college, but before she did, her father insisted that she get a motorcycle license, and in exchange, he would buy her the scooter. Morgan, of course, eagerly accepted the arrangement.

Morgan earned the nickname "Baby Horse" from her U.S. teammates after debuting with the national team, partially for being the squad's youngest member, and partially for the horse-like gallop that is ever-present in her running style.

For two decades, Kristine Lilly was synonymous with the No. 13 in the U.S. national team. Citing Lilly as a personal hero, Morgan inherited the number upon Lilly's 2010 retirement and Morgan's 2010 national team debut. It's also a number that Morgan holds near and dear, having worn it since she began playing competitive soccer at the age of 14. She has also had it tattooed on her left hip as a good luck omen for the left-footed player.
