Alexandre Bilodeau is a freestyle skiing athlete competing at the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics.
Alexandre Bilodeau had the best season of his young career last season, winning the 2008-09 moguls title. He finished on the podium in six of the seven World Cup moguls events, including winning the last four of the season. However, his principal rival, 2006 gold medalist Dale Begg-Smith of Australia, missed those same contests as he recovered from injury. With the reemergence of Begg-Smith in 2009-10,
Bilodeau originally planned to make his Olympic debut at the 2010 Games in Vancouver, but he established himself as a surprise candidate for the 2006 Games with a World Cup victory in Mont Gabriel, Quebec on January 7, 2006. That victory made the then 18 year old the youngest man ever to win a World Cup moguls event. In Torino, admittedly overwhelmed, he finished in 11th place when he was unable to land his second jump of the final. He says now, "I don't think I realized what was the Olympics. When I touched down [missed the landing] on my bottom air in 2006, I was like, 'WOW! I understand NOW what is the Olympics.' Now it's four years of working to be prepared for another opportunity at just 23 seconds."
Like countless other young Canadians, Bilodeau dreamed of playing hockey when he was younger. His mother, Sylvie, took him out of hockey because his older brother, Frederic, and younger sister, Beatrice, were always in the arena eating slushies. She then decided it was time for a more family friendly activity—skiing. At age 8, Alexandre didn't particularly enjoy downhill skiing, but he soon realized his passion for going off jumps. He became involved in both aerials and moguls and was once considered a promising aerialist with not much of a future in moguls. At age 15, though, he decided to focus on moguls. At this same time, inverted aerials were approved in moguls and Bilodeau enjoyed the obvious advantage from his training as an aerialist. "The rest of the moguls skiers had a year or two of adapting to catch up," he says. His jumping ability was credited with his quick rise in the sport.

Bilodeau did not win any of the World Cup competitions before the 2010 Games. He finished in fourth at two, third at two, and managed one second place finish. At the 2009 World Championships, he finished in eighth place in moguls (though he won the non-Olympic dual moguls competition).Bilodeau originally planned to make his Olympic debut at the 2010 Games in Vancouver, but he established himself as a surprise candidate for the 2006 Games with a World Cup victory in Mont Gabriel, Quebec on January 7, 2006.
