Alexandre Tharaud stars in "Amour," directed by Michael Haneke and co-starring Jean-Louis Trintignant and Emmanuelle Riva, as Alexandre. The role marks Tharaud's acting debut.

Born in Paris in 1968, Alexandre Tharaud is an internationally renowned pianist who started playing the piano when he was just five years old. He studied at the Conservatoire de Paris and won numerous international prizes, including one in Munich.

As his career developed worldwide, he recorded many albums that won numerous awards, such as the Diapason d'or or the Gramophone Award in the UK. In 2012, he was named instrumental soloist of the year at the Classical Victoires awards.

Tharaud occupies a unique place among French pianists. He plays with major orchestras in France and overseas, and performs recitals in all major cities. He is well known for his research in repertoires that are dear to him, as reflected by his discography: most recently featuring Bach, Scarlatti and Chopin.

Previously, he explored the baroque repertory, such as Rameau and Couperin, as well as Ravel and Satie, delivering original and sensitive versions of their compositions.

Inquiring and eclectic, Tharaud creates contemporary works and participates in French popular music.
