Alistair Brownlee is an athlete competing in the triathlon at the 2012 London Summer Olympics for Great Britain.

No. 1 world-ranked triathlete Alistair Brownlee tore his left Achilles tendon at the end of February 2012. "People want to know how it affects my Olympic preparations. It's hard to tell at the moment but if I can get this boot off quite quickly and get training, I have plenty of time to get myself fit," Brownlee told BBC not long after his injury. His first major race of the year was scheduled to be the ITU World Triathlon San Diego on May 12, but he announced on March 26 that he would not be able to compete there.

Brownlee represented Great Britain at the 2008 Summer Olympics in the triathlon event, finishing in 12th place. He was the first British competitor to cross the line. During the 2008 season, his best world cup finish was third place in Madrid and he also won the under 23 world championship.

He collected a second world championship title in 2011 with victory in Beijing, beating brother Jonathan to the top spot in the process. Brownlee won his first world title in 2009 — winning all five of the World Championship Series events in which he competed. He won titles in Madrid, Washington D.C., Kitzbuhel and London before winning the Grand Final, held on Australia's Gold Coast. He was the first person to win the ITU Triathlon World Championships titles for Junior Men (2006), U23 Men (2008) and Senior Men (2009).

Brownlee collapsed at the 2010 Hyde Park Triathlon. Having won all six World Championship series races in the lead up to Hyde Park, Brownlee dropped back from first place to 10th before collapsing just past the finish line.

Brownlee was introduced to triathlon at a young age by his uncle, Simon Hearnshaw, who regularly competed in the sport. His younger brother, Jonathan Brownlee, is also a triathlete and won the 2009 European Junior Championships and finished second at the 2009 ITU Triathlon Junior World Championships.
