Aly & AJ are a teen pop band consisting of sisters Alyson "Aly" Michalka and Amanda Joy "AJ" Michalka. They were born in Los Angeles, California but were raised in Seattle, Washington, where they started playing piano at six years old. They both picked up the guitar a few years ago and started to write songs soon after that.

In August 2005, Aly & AJ celebrated receiving their first gold album for their debut, "Into the Rush." The two wrote all but two tracks on the album. Aly & AJ's versions of "Do You Believe In Magic" and "Walking on Sunshine" were featured on the hit film, "Herbie: Fully Loaded." The single, "Rush" is an inspiring ode to holding steadfast to your dreams. "No One," which was featured in the film "Ice Princess," features soaring harmonies with the emotional underpinnings of their own roots in gospel and country. "Slow Down" encourages listeners not to succumb to peer pressure to do something they don't want to do, especially in relationships, while "No One" and "Speak for Myself" illustrates the importance for fans to forge their own identities and not compare themselves to others. AJ's "Protecting Me," which was featured in an episode of Disney Channel's "Phil of the Future," is that rare teenage anthem, a paean to long-suffering mom and dad.

In 2006, Aly & AJ signed a multi-layered deal with Disney, which included their own pilot on Disney Channel called "Haversham Hall," which was created as a starring vehicle for the sisters to spotlight their acting abilities. The pilot though was not picked up. Aly & AJ also starred in the Disney Channel Original Movie, "Cow Belles."

In 2006, Aly & AJ released their second album, "Acoustic Hearts of Winter." On this album, Aly & AJ perform traditional Christmas songs, including "Joy to the World" and "Silent Night," as well as original songs, "Greatest Time of Year" and "Not This Year."

In 2007, Aly & AJ released their third album, "Insomniatic." Time magazine named "Potential Breakup Song" one of The 10 Best Songs of 2007.

Aly & AJ are currently working on a fourth studio album to be released in 2009.
