Nick "Norman Gentle" Mitchell is in the top 36 contestants on FOX's "American Idol 8." Nick Mitchell auditioned in East Rutherford, New Jersey. Nick Mitchell, in the guise of his alter ego Norman Gentle, sang "And I Am Telling You" by Jennifer Hudson and "Amazing Grace" for his audition. All of the judges except for Simon Cowell voted yes to send Mitchell to Hollywood. Mitchell was in the second group of 12 contestants to perform out of the top 36. Mitchell did not receive enough votes to secure a spot among the finalists, and the judges decided not to give him a second chance on the wild card show.

Mitchell is a sketch comedian who performs in Manhattan and Connecticut. Mitchell attended Marymount Manhattan College and Western Connecticut State University. Mitchell is from Brookfield, Connecticut. Mitchell is 27 years old.
