Amy Acker stars in "Happy Town" on ABC as Rachel Conroy.
When native Texan Amy Acker has the rare opportunity to relax, she's likely to play some golf or practice her yoga. Sometimes the adventurous dancer-turned-actress even finds time for the "adrenaline rush activities" she loves, like rock climbing. On TV Acker first ascended to national attention on the WB's hugely popular series "Angel," starring opposite David Boreanaz, as Winifred "Fred" Burkle in the final few episodes of Season Two.
Acker studied dance for 13 years before starting an acting career on stage with productions of William Shakespeare's "Much Ado About Nothing" and Ibsen's "Master Builder." She earned Dallas Theatre Awards for her roles in "Therese Raquin" and "Beast on the Moon." She then moved to New York, where she quickly landed the lead in two independent feature films, "The Energy Specialist" and "The Accident."
That success fuelled her passion for acting even more, and Acker decided to take another plunge and relocated to Los Angeles. Soon after she was cast in the science fiction flick "Groom Lake," written and directed by William Shatner. Then came "Angel."
Acker has a recurring role on TV's "Dollhouse," and will be in the new movie "Cabin in the Woods." She was also a series regular in the final season of "Alias." She can be seen in Steven Spielberg's "Catch Me If You Can," starring Leonardo DiCaprio, television movies including "Voices" for Lifetime, "Fire and Ice" on Syfy and CBS' "Back to the Batcave," as well as several independent feature films and TV guest spots.
A resident of New York with her husband, James Carpinello, and their two children, Acker is a graduate of Southern Methodist University, where she studied Fine Arts and earned her BFA in acting.
