Anna Maxwell Martin stars in A&E's mystery crime drama series "The Frankenstein Chronicles."

British actress Anna Maxwell Martin won early critical acclaim with a six-hour performance as Lyra in the National Theatre's sell-out adaptation of Philip Pullman's "His Dark Materials." She went on to take BAFTA Awards for Best Actress for her star turn in the BBC adaptation of Charles Dickens's "Bleak House," and for her performance in the television film version of Claire Allan's novel about mental illness, "Poppy Shakespeare." Other UK television credits include "And Then There Were None," "Midwinter of the Spirit," "The Life of Rock with Brian Pern," "The Lost Honour of Christopher Jefferies," "The Bletchley Circle," "Death Comes to Pemberley," "South Riding," "Free Agents" and "North & South."

On the big screen, Martin has been seen in Stephen Frears' "Philomena," alongside Judi Dench and Steve Coogan, "Alan Partridge," opposite Steve Coogan and Colm Meaney, and "Becoming Jane," starring Anne Hathaway, James McAvoy and Julie Walters.

Onstage, Martin has recently performed in "Macbeth" at the Birmingham Repertory Theatre, "Measure for Measure" at the Almeida and "Cabaret" in the West End.

Martin graduated from the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art (LAMDA).
