Director Antoine Fuqua originally majored in electrical engineering, in hopes of flying jets in the military. Fuqua, however, started directing music videos for the likes of Toni Braxton and Prince, which eventually segued into directing films. His first feature film he directed was "The Replacement Killers," starring Chow Yun-Fat and Mira Sorvino, followed shortly thereafter by "Bait," starring Jamie Foxx.
Fuqua's breakthrough came with "Training Day," in which Denzel Washington starred and for
which he won an Academy Award for his role. Fuqua's other director credits include "Shooter," "King Arthur" and "Tears of the Sun."
Fuqua recently signed on to direct a romantic love story between an imperial concubine, Yang Guifei, and Xuanzong, the Yang dynasty emperor.
Fuqua also directed FOX's 2011 pilot "Exit Strategy," a spy thriller about a CIA team specializing in high-risk rescue extraction operations that save agents who have been compromised. The pilot stars Ethan Hawke and Tom Sizemore.
Fuqua was born and raised in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and attended West Virginia State University, from which he did not graduate. He is married to model and actress Lela Rochon.
