Ariel Tweto from "Flying Wild Alaska" stars in the Discovery Channel reality docu-series. Ariel ("Flying Wild Alaska") is a member of the ground crew for the airline ERA Alaska.
Jim and Ferno's daughter Ariel Tweto was born in 1987. She grew up in Unalakleet, Alaska — a remote village on the Bering Sea with a population of about 700 people, and the first stop on the famed Iditarod Trail Sled Dog Race. Like her parents, Ariel is known around town as a fierce athletic competitor. As a member of
However, basketball was her number one sport, taking her to games across the United States and to Europe when she was only 14 years old. Ariel also competed in the Native Youth Games, an annual event that celebrates Alaska's rich cultural heritage while challenging the region's greatest youth competitors. She won medals in both the Wrist Carry and Seal Hop, events modeled after Alaskan Native behaviors designed to test strength and endurance. Like her mother, Ariel has a passion for running and is determined to break the world record for most consecutive days run, even if that means battling Alaska's blizzards and rain soaked days. She has not missed a day of running since 2002, when she was in 7th grade.
Ariel craves adventure. She says she will jump off of anything, no matter how high, and will eat anything at least once. She was disappointed during a recent skydiving adventure when she didn't get butterflies in the pit of her stomach before making the jump! Splitting her time between Alaska and Los Angeles, Ariel currently stays active by running, teaching herself how to surf and paddle board, hiking four times a week and doing yoga.
She says that one of her most vivid memories was when she shot her first caribou with her grandma at age 9. The recoil from the gun was so strong that she was left with a black eye.
Ariel is the only member of the family who does not have a pilot's license, though she's working to change that.
