She grew up in Iran until she was seven years old, when she and her family fled as refugees to Germany, where she lived for the next seven years. When she was a teenager, she moved to Los Angeles, where she went to Beverly Hills High School. She then majored in philosophy and psychology at UCLA, graduating in 2000.
She speaks four languages.
