August Diehl stars in Starz' miniseries "Close to the Enemy."

German actor August Diehl trained at the School of Dramatic Art Ernst Busch and appeared in numerous productions at the Maxim Gorki Theater Berlin, the Hamburger Kammerspiele, the Schauspielhaus Dortmund, and the Burgtheater in Vienna. In the 2013-14 season he played the title role in "Hamlet," directed by Andrea Breth, at the Burgtheater.

For his debut film role in 2000 as avid computer hacker and conspiracy theorist Karl Koch in Hans-Christian Schmid's spy thriller "23," Diehl won the European Shooting Star Award and the German Film Award for Best Performance by an Actor in a Leading Role, as well as Best Young Actor at the Bavarian Film Awards. Diehl was also seen in Robert Schwentke's debut film "Tattoo," took a small-but-pivotal role in Stefan Ruzowitzky's thriller "Anatomy 2," and appeared in "The Counterfeiters," which won the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film of the Year in 2008. In addition, Diehl received several awards for his performance in Achim von Borries' "Love in Thoughts." Diehl's acclaimed performance in Volker Schlöndorff's "The Ninth Day" earned him another German Film Award nomination, as did his starring role in "If Not Us, Who?," directed by Andres Veiel.

Diehl was also seen in Quentin Tarantino's "Inglourious Basterds," starring Brad Pitt and Christoph Waltz, Phillip Noyce's "Salt" as the husband of Angelina Jolie, Sylvie Verheydes' "Confession of a Child of the Century," alongside Pete Doherty and Charlotte Gainsbourg, Toke Constantin Hebbeln's "Shores of Hope," Hermine Huntgeburth's "The Adventures of Huck Finn," Pia Marais' "Layla Fourie," Bille August's "Night Train to Lisbon," opposite Jeremy Irons, Mélanie Laurent and Charlotte Rampling, Bruce McDonald's "The Husband," Markus Goller's "Fraus Ella," and Bobbie Peers' "The Disappearing Illusionist."
