Brandon T. Jackson stars in "Big Mommas: Like Father Like Son," alongside Martin Lawrence and Jessica Lucas, as Trent.

Brandon T. Jackson won acclaim (and his third Black Reel Award nomination) for his performance as the rapper-turned-actor Alpa Chino in Ben Stiller's blockbuster satire "Tropic Thunder." Then came a starring role in Twentieth Century Fox's "Percy Jackson & The Olympians: The Lightning Thief."

A native of Detroit, Michigan, Jackson grew up the son of a church bishop (his father) and pastor (his mother). At a young age, Jackson developed an affinity for comedy. The natural "class clown" pursued his ambition by appearing at local community and church events (including the Motor City Youth Festival, at age 14), where he sowed the seeds of a burgeoning career as a standup comic.

As a teenager, Jackson took an internship at local Detroit radio station 93.1 FM and soon was a guest host at 105.9 FM. As Jackson's audiences grew, so did his desire to perfect his comic skills. He began to get calls to work with comedians such as Chris Tucker and Wayne Brady, both of whom, like Jackson's idols Martin Lawrence, Sinbad and Chris Rock, served as great inspirations for his work.

A move to Los Angeles led to stand-up routines at the city's renowned comedy club The Laugh Factory which in turn resulted in a series of small parts in films such as Michael Mann's "Ali," Curtis Hanson's "8 Mile" and Marc Cayce's "Nikita Blues."

After delivering side-splitting performances at New York City's "Showtime at the Apollo" and BET's "Comic View," Jackson won his first major movie role as Bow Wow's best friend Junior in the 1970s coming-of-age comedy, "Roll Bounce." Jackson's work in the Teitel/Tillman production won him the 2006 Black Reel Award for Breakthrough Performance and a second nomination as part of the film's ensemble cast.

While "Roll Bounce" hit movie screens, Jackson hosted his brainchild "Teens of Comedy Tour," presented by BET and featuring some of the nations funniest teenage comedians. Jackson also hosted concert tours for young music idols such as Chris Brown, Ne-Yo and T-Pain. In 2006, Jackson hosted the "Up Close and Personal Tour," featuring Chris Brown, Ne-Yo, Lil Wayne, Juelz Santana, and Dem Franchize Boyz. His sketch comedy special "The Brandon T. Jackson Show" aired on the N Channel and was nominated for a Namic Vision Awards. Other television projects include MTV's "Wild N' Out," BET's "106 & Park" and the MTV pilot "Crash My School."

Jackson has also logged roles in such projects as "House of Grimm," "This Christmas," "Big Stan," "Cuttin the Mustard" and the box office hit, "Fast & Furious." He had a co-starring role in "Tooth Fairy" opposite Dwayne Johnson, and a lead role in "Rogue's Gallery." Jackson's comedy tours include the 2007 "TPain Tour" and the 2005 "Pepsi Smash."
