Bryce Black from "Project Runway" is one of the designers competing in Season 9 of the Lifetime reality fashion design competition series. He is a 26-year-old fashion designer from Portland, Oregon. He though is originally from Twin Falls, Idaho.
At a young age, Bryce Black ("Project Runway 9") made dresses for his sister's Barbie dolls out of anything he could get his hands on, like toilet paper, old socks and denim scraps. He graduated from The Art Institute of Portland in March 2011 with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Apparel Design. He won a Studio SKB Designer Launch internship and was a national finalist in The Humane Society's and The Art Institute's Cool vs. Cruel 2009 fashion design contest. In the past, he worked in retail visual display and merchandising for Gap Inc.
His favorite designers are Lee McQueen, Gareth Pugh, Riccardo Tisci, Marc Jacobs, Hussein Chalayan, and Viktor and Rolf. Black says jeans that fit well, an attractive handbag and sexy heels are all fashion musts. He says he is great with fit and proportion, mixing textures and colors, and creating exciting silhouettes. He's a perfectionist, but he says he is coming to realize that the small stuff does not affect the big picture. Over the years, his design influences have included hyperbolic super egos like comic book super villains, rock stars and eccentric fashionistas. Right now, he is also influenced by the idea of a revolution or the shifting of power. When he's designing, he likes listening to Lady Gaga's "Born This Way" album.
