Christinatina Loukas is a diver competing at the 2012 London Summer Olympics for the USA.

U.S. diver Christina Loukas' first Olympic experience was in 2008, and the then 22-year-old placed ninth in the 3m springboard — one spot behind fellow American Nancilea Foster. Loukas said being at the Olympics was just another big meet on the schedule for her. "Once you get on the pool deck, it's just another world championship type meet," she said. "You know, same divers."

Loukas decided to take time off from diving in 2010. She wasn't happy and didn't know if she wanted to continue with the sport. "I didn't know if I could mentally handle it," she said. So Loukas took the summer off and moved back home to Chicago from Indiana. Ultimately she realized she missed the sport and wanted to accomplish more goals, so she relocated to Texas to train with Ken Armstrong at The Woodlands Diving Academy that fall. Her top international result was a fourth-place finish in 3m at the 2011 Worlds.

Loukas qualified for Beijing by winning women's springboard at Olympic Trials. Loukas, who started the competition with 25 bonus points for her fourth-place finish at the 2008 World Cup, was so far ahead of the field that she clinched the win before performing her last dive. Loukas nailed her final dive nonetheless, finishing 100 points ahead of the next diver. Despite having led the whole time, Loukas said she was "a little overwhelmed" after the win, and the fact that she was going to the Olympics hadn't quite sunk in yet.

Loukas took a break from Indiana University in 2007-08 to focus on Beijing, and around her diving schedule she learned Greek using Rosetta Stone. Loukas, whose father is from Greece, said she has always wanted to learn the language and she finally had enough time to do it. Loukas also said she started reading more for fun and enjoys being outside and active when she's not diving.

Growing up in Chicago, Loukas had one of the best seats in the house for Cubs games: Her family owns three apartment buildings with rooftop views of Wrigley Field. The rooftops, which are rented out for games, are complete with bleachers, buffets and bars. Loukas' family also owns two bars and a restaurant in Wrigleyville. She says she feels very lucky to have grown up there, and thinks everyone should come see a Cubs game at Wrigley. "There's just so much tradition to that stadium," Loukas said. "It's amazing — there's no other stadium like it." However, Loukas admitted she'd rather win a gold medal than see the Cubs win the World Series, which they have not done since 1908.

When it comes to pizza, Loukas has one preference: Chicago-style. Although the deep-dish pizza isn't the healthiest meal on the menu, she likes is more than New York-style — a thinner, crispier form.

Loukas took swimming and diving lessons when she was very young, but was mainly focused on gymnastics. As she started to have more fun with diving, and began to get burnt out in gymnastics, she made the switch at age 12. With nearly 10 years of gymnastics training, Loukas says it was a very easy transition.
