Cynthia Stevenson began her career doing improvisational and theatre work. An impressed agent took her on and Cynthia Stevenson immediately got a job in the sketch comedy series "Off the Wall." A career break came for Cynthia Stevenson in 1990 when she was cast as the lead in the cable comedy "My Talk Show," playing Jennifer Bass, the host of a small town television talk show filmed from Jennifer's living room. The late legendary director Robert Altman saw Cynthia Stevenson in this and cast her in his film, "The Player." Cynthia Stevenson went on to be a series regular as one of Bob Newhart's daughters in "Bob," and played Hope in "Hope & Gloria."

Additional television credits for Cynthia Stevenson include the lead in "Oh Baby," where she portrayed the struggling working mom, Tracy. Cynthia Stevenson was also a cast regular in the cult comedy "Dead Like Me."
