Daniel Purvis is a gymnast competing at the 2012 London Summer Olympics for Great Britain. He is the 2010 world floor bronze medalist and a two-time British all-around champion.

Daniel Purvis' solid all-around performances helped Great Britain qualify a men's team entry for its home Olympic Games in 2012…but it wasn't easy. At the first qualifying event, 2011 Worlds in Tokyo, Great Britain had a disastrous day in qualifying and did not make the men's team finals and thus did not earn their spot at the Games (though Purvis performed well in the all-around). The British men trained over the holidays and at the second and final opportunity to qualify (the London Test Event in January 2012), they won team competition and booked a spot at the Olympic Games. Purvis earned the highest all-around score at the test event, too.

Despite Team GB's struggles at 2011 Worlds in Tokyo, Purvis finished just off the all-around podium in fourth place — less than three-tenths of a point behind Japan's Koji Yamamuro in third and a step up from his fifth place result at 2010 Worlds in Rotterdam. Purvis won his first individual world medal in 2010, picking up the bronze medal in the floor exercise final.

After two highly successful seasons on the world stage, Purvis told the BBC, "An Olympic medal is definitely a realistic target now." In the all-around, Purvis will face tough competition from three-time world champion Kohei Uchimura of Japan, two-time world silver medalist Philipp Boy of Germany, and two strong contenders from the United States.

He says his idol is three-time world champion Kohei Uchimura because he makes gymnastics look easy.

When asked about his pre-competition rituals or superstitions, Purvis commented, "I belive in karma, so I try to be really nice to everyone before I compete so my performance is not affected."

Purvis was born in Liverpool and says his favorite sports personality is footballer Steven Gerrard since he supports his home club.

Began gymnastics at age seven. "My older brother was a footballer, but I was absolutely rubbish, so I tried gymnastics instead." Purvis says his favorite events are floor exercise and parallel bars.
