David Hewlett stars in "Rise of the Planet of the Apes," opposite James Franco, as Hunsiker.

David Hewlett is perhaps best known for starring on Sci Fi Channel's"Stargate Atlantis" as Dr. Rodney McKay, the brilliant and lovably sarcastic astrophysicist. Arrogant, yet charming despite himself, McKay continues to find himself under the gun to solve the galaxy's most challenging equations before the enemy catches up with them. For his work, Hewlett won the Spacey Award for favorite TV character.

Hewlett's career began in his early teens when he hooked up with a few of his fellow sci-fi geek schoolmates and started acting in their early film efforts. He still runs with the same crowd of filmmakers, collaborating with them on the feature films "Cube," "Get Down," "Cypher," "Foolproof" and "Nothing."

In addition to his role on "Atlantis," highlights from his television credits include guest starring roles on "ER," "Without a Trace" and "The District," and recurring roles on "Kung Fu: The Legend Continues," "Beyond Reality" and the Canadian hit series "Traders," for which he garnered two Gemini nominations. He has also had leading roles in "The Triangle," "And Never Let Her Go," "The Penthouse" and the critically-acclaimed "The Boys of St. Vincent," as well as two films for the Sci Fi Channel: "Darklight" and "Boa vs. Python."

On the big screen, Hewlett's credits include roles in "Nothing," "Get Down," "Cypher," "Cube," "Clutch," and John Boorman's "Where the Heart Is," as well as cult favorites like "Scanners II," "Desire and Hell at the Sunset Motel" and "Pin."

Hewlett's writing and directing debut, "A Dog's Breakfast," has been picked up for distribution by MGM and FOX. "A Dog's Breakfast" is a bone-jarring, head-smacking, fiancé bashing feature-length comedy about marriage, madness and murder. He stars along with fellow "Atlantis" cast members Paul McGillion (Dr. Carson Beckett) and Rachel Luttrell (Teyla Emmagan), as well as "SG-1's" Christopher Judge (Teal'c), his real-life sister actress Kate Hewlett, and his wonder-dog, Mars.
