In "Deadliest Catch" Season 6, the ultimate tough guys of television return to the Bering Sea for an all-new season of crab fishing. The sixth season takes viewers through some of the roughest situations the captains and crews have ever had to face on the high seas. From treacherous weather conditions to crew conflict to the death of beloved Captain Phil Harris, each of this season's 16 episodes bring viewers into the intimate world of these crab fisherman.
Captains Sig Hansen (F/V Northwestern), Johnathan and Andy Hillstrand (F/V Time Bandit), Keith Colburn (F/V Wizard) and Phil Harris (F/V Cornelia Marie) are all back to do what they do best: fish for crab, with a one hundred million dollar reward on the line. But, this season, one challenge after another seems to rock each boat to its core. In the end, all the captains will come to the realization that the most violent storms come from within.
In season six, Captain Sig matches skills against his old rivals, Captain Phil, the Hillstrand brothers and Captain Keith. Because season six began filming in October 2009, Captain Phil will be featured throughout king crab season and into opilio season. Events will unfold as they occurred.
There's a fracture in the Bering Sea brotherhood. Old allies become mortal enemies when fishing turns personal. While some skippers rage against each other, another skipper fights a lone battle to stay alive. Two young deckhands are traded as an experiment in "attitude adjustment" conducted by their maniacal captains. Before the season is through, though, terrible tragedy will alter two young lives forever.
"Deadliest Catch" is produced for Discovery Channel by Original Productions. Thom Beers and Jeff Conroy are executive producers and Matt Renner is co-executive producer. For Discovery Channel, Paul Gasek and Tracy Rudolph are executive producers.
Season 5
The seas are rougher, the stakes are higher and the intensity has never been stronger as the original, ultimate tough guys of television return in Discovery Channel's Emmy-winning "Deadliest Catch" for season 5. All eyes points to 53 52' North / 166 31' West: Dutch Harbor, Alaska, where Captains Sig Hansen (Northwestern), Johnathan and Andy Hillstrand (Time Bandit), Phil Harris (Cornelia Marie) and Keith Colburn (Wizard) are all back for another season of crab fishing, but storms—personal, natural and financial—are brewing.
Phil and Keith both face serious health issues. While Keith escapes a close call with cancer, Phil finds himself in limbo, not sure if he will even be allowed to fish this year. Following his leg embolism last year, Phil sweats it out on the docks, waiting for what he hopes is the doctors' thumbs up to join his crew, which includes sons Josh and Jake.
Sig, the Hillstrands, Phil and Keith have all sunk hundreds of thousands of dollars in summer repairs into their boats betting large hauls will be a return on their investment. But when crab numbers start off light and one boat is damaged, the captains resort to extreme measures to ensure their livelihood.
And finally, this season, the 'deadliest' in "Deadliest Catch" lives up to its name as the tragedy of the Katmai unfolds sending ripples through the fishing community of Dutch Harbor. On October 22, seven fishermen lost their lives in the icy Bering Sea and only Discovery cameras were there to be a part of the Coast Guard's search and rescue. Surviving Katmai crew members, including the captain, open up about their harrowing days adrift on the open sea and the bonds with their fallen brothers.
