Debra Lawrance stars in "Please Like Me" on Pivot as Rose, aka Mum.

Australian actress Debra Lawrance was born and raised in Melbourne and graduated, as a Bachelor of Dramatic Art, from N.I.D.A. in 1977. Her work has been varied, with most of her credits being in television. In 1980 she starred as Maggie Kelly in Channel 7's acclaimed miniseries about Ned Kelly, "The Last Outlaw." This was followed by several feature films, including "Silver City." After traveling overseas Debra won the lead role in "The Fast Lane," a comedy series written by John Clarke and Andrew Knight. The show ran on ABC for two seasons and was a critical success.

Debra was then fortunate to work with Tom Conti on "Two Brothers Running" and then two months later with Meryl Streep on "Evil Angels." In 1988 she toured to London with an Aboriginal theater company production of "No Sugar," and then, after further travels returned home to star in "Home and Away" as Pippa for the next eight years. During her time on the soap opera, Debra met Dennis Coard, who was playing her on-screen husband; a year after they married on-screen, they tied the knot off-screen as well!

Debra is also a senior tutor for the NIDA Corporate Performance Programme, which keeps her busy; but she nonetheless has time to enjoy rural life on the outskirts of Melbourne with Dennis and their two beautiful children, Grace and William.
