DMX is a multi-platinum selling rapper who has delivered five No. 1 Billboard albums, earning him the undisputed title as the king of hardcore rap. With hits like "Ruff Ryders Anthem," "Who We Be," "Lord Give Me a Sign" and the Grammy-nominated "Party Up (Up In Here)," DMX has developed a devoted global following.
DMX's first four albums debuted at number one and sold well over 22 million records in just four years. His first album, "It's Dark and Hell is Hot," was released in 1998 to critical acclaim and platinum success. Legend has it that X got a record deal after former Def Jam exec Lyor Cohen heard him rap so ferociously that the wires in his jaws could be heard popping.
DMX and his Ruff Ryder crew's — which included producer Swizz Beatz, rappers Eve, Drag-On and The Lox — road to success with his sophomore LP, "Flesh of My Flesh, Blood of My Blood." The album went quadruple platinum and DMX became the second rapper in history to release two records in the same year to debut at number one. 2000 saw the release of " ... And Then There Was X." By the time he released his fourth album, "The Great Depression," which went triple platinum the following year, Dark Man X was a certified superstar.
In September 2003, DMX released his fifth straight studio album to debut at number one. "Grand Champ" went platinum in 10 days and was set to be the Yonkers native's final album before retirement. The record featured the hits, "Where Tha Hood At" and "Get It on the Floor." In August 2006, DMX released the album "Year of the Dog ... Again." It missed the number one spot in the charts by only one hundred sales.
Rap fans recognized X's star power at the 2009 VH1 Hip-Hop Honors where the award show acknowledged the rich history and contribution of X's label, Def Jam.
Back home and back at it, DMX is said to be working on his seventh studio album, tentatively titled "Redemption of the Beast."
In addition to his many platinum records, DMX also experienced success in film. He starred in "Never Die Alone," opposite Michael Ealy, and co-starred with Jet Li in the action film "Cradle 2 the Grave." Previously the Dark Man X held leading roles opposite Steven Seagal in "Exit Wounds" and opposite Jet Li, Aaliyah and Isaiah Washington in "Romeo Must Die." He made his feature film debut in "Belly."
DMX is also the author of a best-selling autobiography entitled "E.A.R.L.: The Autobiography of DMX," which was released by Harper Collins in 2002.
