Most recognized as Captain Knauer in both versions of "The Longest Yard," Ed Lauter began his acting career appearing on the popular '70s series "The Waltons." He went on to guest star on "The Streets of San Francisco," "Magnum P.I.," "Homicide: Life on the Street," "The X-Files," "Millennium" and "ER." More recently he was seen in "Psych," "Grey's Anatomy" and "Cold Case." Lauter's additional television credits include HBO's "A Bright Shining Lie" and "The Tuskegee Airmen." With more than 90 silver screen credits to his name, Lauter has starred in such feature films as "Seabiscuit," "Leaving Las Vegas," "Born on the 4th of July," "School Ties," "Mulholland Falls," "True Romance" and Alfred Hitchcock's last film "Family Plot."
Born in New York, Lauter was an English major in college and worked as a stand-up comedian before beginning his acting career in 1971.
