Fallene Wells from "Project Runway" is one of the designers competing in Season 9 of the Lifetime reality fashion design competition series. She is a 29-year-old hairstylist at Voila Salon Spa and Parfumerie in Denver, Colorado. She though is originally from Las Vegas, Nevada. In the past, she has worked as a receptionist, administrative assistant and logistics department employee.
Fallene Wells ("Project Runway 9") says that the first garment that she ever made was nothing to brag about; it was just cheap cotton rainbow striped fabric pants with a drawstring. When she was 11 years old, she went on a tour of Brooks College with her sister who wanted to go to school for interior design. The college also had a fashion design program, and when Fallene saw all of the dress forms and fashion illustrations, she realized she wanted to be a designer. She says that her mother taught her the basics at 11 but that she is primarily self-taught. She would sew now and then as a teenager, but it wasn't until 2007 that she designed a collection at her first fashion show production. In 2010 she won Mastermind with Westword and was interviewed in their paper for Fashion in Denver. In May 2011 she won a Vitamin Water fashion competition, for creating a look inspired by their beverage called Glow.
Her favorite designers are Anna Sui and Dior. Fallene considers her retro ugly sweater collection to be a fashion must. She says she shines in creating clothes that are wearable, unique and have a ton of style. She enjoys mixing patterns and colors and creating a proportionate silhouette. She though has never worked with specialized industrial equipment and feels she could get stronger in that area. She tries to push herself by working with different fabrics and creating out-of-the-box designs, but says she could always use more help with textiles and execution. Over the years, she has always been influenced by different eras. Right now she is working on a collection that has a modern, wearable '20s feel with art deco lines. When she's designing, she likes listening to Edith Piaf, She & Him, Noah and the Whale, and MGMT.
