Frankie Faison stars in "Banshee" on Cinemax as Sugar Bates, a wise, powerful former boxer and ex-con who now owns the local watering hole.

Frankie Faison has followed his success as Commissioner Ervin Burrell on the acclaimed HBO series "The Wire" with a series of studio and independent film performances in Paul Weitz's "Cirque Du Freak" (Universal 2009), "Nick and Nora's Infinite Playlist" (Columbia Pictures), "Meet the Browns" (Lionsgate), and indies "Order of Redemption," "For Sale by Owner" and "Splinterheads."

Audiences delighted in his portrayal of Chief Gordon in the madcap Wayan's Brothers comedy "White Chicks." Other prominent feature appearances include all three Hannibal Lecter films — "The Silence of the Lambs," "Red Dragon" and "Hannibal" — as well as appearing in the initial film "Manhunter" which makes him the only actor to have appeared in all of the films. Frankie earned a Tony and Drama Desk nomination for Best Supporting Actor for his portrayal of the brain-damaged Gabriel to James Earl Jones' Troy Maxon in August Wilson's award winning play, "Fences."

Frankie starred on the FOX series "True Colors," the ABC series "Prey," and the PBS series "A Hot Hero Sandwich." His numerous guest star appearances include "Army Wives," "Law & Order," "The Cosby Show," "Hawk" and HBO's "Oz."

The peripatetic Faison starred in "13 Conversations About One Thing," directed by Jill and Karen Sprecher, "Gods and Generals," directed by Ron Maxwell, "Call Me Clause," starring Whoopi Goldberg, "The Highwaymen," opposite Jim Caviezel, "America Brown," "Messengers," "Freejack," "Albino Alligator," "Roommates," "Mississippi Burning," "Do the Right Thing," "Coming to America," "The Money Pit," "Hanky Panky," "Cat People," "City of Hope," "The Chosen" and "Ragtime," where he had the honor of working with the late, great James Cagney on his last film, "Down to Earth," a remake of the film "Heaven Can Wait" starring Chris Rock, "Sleepy Time Man," "The Thomas Crown Affair," as Detective Paretti, "The Rich Man's Wife" and the adaptation of Kurt Vonnegut's "Mother Night," starring Nick Nolte. Faison also appeared with Nolte in "I Love Trouble" with Julia Roberts.

Faison's other Broadway appearances include "Getting Away with Murder," the Brooks Atkinson Theatre production of "Of Mice and Men" and the Circle in the Square revival of "The Iceman Cometh" and "The Shadow Box." Frankie more recently took on the challenge of playing the role of Memphis in August Wilson's "Two Trains Running" and the monumental role of Willie Loman in "Arthur Miller's Death of a Salesman."
