At 54, Freddy Moore has been in the oil fields for more than 30 years. He started out as a worm and worked his way up the chain to hand, derrick man, driller and eventually tool pusher, which he has been for about a decade. This year, he has to contend with a never-ending staffing merry-go-round. When the morning driller suddenly quits, a new driller has to be brought in. But he and his fellow tool pusher, Jerry Chancey, don't see eye to eye on what's right for the rig. The two will also get into a struggle over a possible promotion. Freddy has a lot to keep together if he's going to keep this rig running. But the truth is he'd rather be fishing.
