Gery Benedetti from "Vietnam in HD" is featured in the History Channel documentary miniseries. He is from Charlemont, Massachusetts. He served in the U.S. Navy as a member of the "River Raiders" from fall 1968 to winter 1969.

19-year-old Gery Benedetti ("Vietnam in HD") was a self-professed adrenaline junkie. Joining the Navy, Benedetti hoped for excitement and adventure — but instead found himself assigned to a survey boat, running secret missions from Greenland to Midway Island for two years. Then, in the summer of 1968, while at Mare Island in California he caught his first glimpse of Vietnam river boats, and was immediately hooked. He put in for a transfer and within months was in South Vietnam, transporting infantry soldiers and Navy Seals to points of incursion in the hostile Mekong Delta Region. Benedetti spent the next year taking part in heart-pounding combat until, as part of Nixon's Vietnamization program, he was tasked with helping to train the South Vietnamese to take over combat operations. After the war, Benedetti resumed his education and received a degree in physical education. After teaching for one year, he decided his temperament just wasn't right for t. Instead, he went into construction as a heavy equipment operator. To this day, he enjoys cross-country skiing, skydiving, white water rafting and any other adrenaline packed activity.
