Golshifteh Farahani starred as Aisha in Ridley Scott's "Body of Lies," becoming the first major Iranian star to act in a Hollywood production since the 1979 revolution. Her last film lensed in Iran, the highly acclaimed "About Elly," won a Silver Bear at the Berlin Film Festival and Best Narrative Feature at the Tribeca Film Festival. For this role, Farahani was also nominated for Best Actress at the Asia Pacific Screen Awards.

Farahani began her acting career in theater at the age of 6, and at 14 made her feature film debut in "The Pear Tree." She won the Best Actress prize in the international competition at the Fajr Film Festival, immediately making her one of the stars of Iranian cinema. Since then, she has appeared in more than 15 films, many of which have received awards at international festivals.

Amongst her other film credits are Bahman Ghobadi's "Half Moon," a winner of the Golden Seashell at the 2006 San Sebastián film festival; Dariush Mehrjui's controversial "Santoori," which is still banned in Iran; and the late Rasool Mollagholi Poor's "M for Mother," which after great success in Iran was chosen to represent the country as its candidate for Best Foreign Language Film at the 2008 Academy Awards.

Farahani is fluent in both French and English as well as a music school graduate who sings and plays the piano, among other instruments. She currently resides in Paris.
