ABC News' "Good Morning America" premiered on November 3, 1975, with co-anchors David Hartman and Nancy Dussault. Over the years, the anchors on "Good Morning America" have included Sandy Hill, Joan Lunden and Charles Gibson (originally co-hosted from January 1987 - May 1998), Lisa McRee and Kevin Newman. Every day "Good Morning America" covers important stories from around the world and presents timely, pertinent information on a wide spectrum of topics, including medicine, finance, consumer issues, science, health & fitness, as well as entertainment, the environment and education. In addition, "GMA" made television history as the first morning show to broadcast live from the heart of the Pentagon, and from the FBI's Quantico, VA, training facility, with its new state-of-the-art crime lab. Anchor Robin Roberts has reported live from a navy submarine at an undisclosed location in the Atlantic Ocean, while Diane Sawyer has brought morning viewers exclusive reports from inside North Korea, Syria, Iran, Afghanistan and Saudi Arabia. "Good Morning America" has also broadcast from the deck of the USS Enterprise. In November 2006, "Good Morning America" brought viewers an innovative and unique series entitled "The New 7 Wonders of the World," in which many of the great minds of our time gathered to create a new list of wonders. As part of the series, Diane Sawyer reported live from Jerusalem; Robin Roberts scaled the Mayan Pyramids in Mexico; Chris Cuomo reported from the Great Barrier Reef in Hawaii; Sam Champion floated on a raft amid Polar Ice Caps; Bill Weir became the only American journalist to report live from the famed Potala Palace in Tibet; Kate Snow reported on the great migration in Africa; and Elizabeth Vargas reported from inside "the Internet." In March of 2003, when the United States went to war with Iraq, "Good Morning America" kept viewers up to date with the latest breaking news from the region. Additionally, ABC News' correspondents embedded with the military and stationed in the field reported regularly for the morning program. "Good Morning America" was there first on the morning that U.S. troops arrived in Baghdad, breaking the story before other network morning shows. Prior to the war, former co-anchor Charles Gibson had reported overseas for his "New Commanders" series, featuring interviews with American military leaders entering combat, and following the invasion, Diane Sawyer returned to the region to offer first-hand reports, including a fascinating look inside a CASH military hospital facility. For her part, co-anchor Robin Roberts has covered a compelling array of news and special events for "Good Morning America." Most recently she hosted a town hall debate live from Des Moines, IA with presidential candidate Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton (D-NY.) Roberts also continues to report on the devastating aftermath of Hurricane Katrina in New Orleans and across the Mississippi Gulf Coast. Other regular contributions to "Good Morning America" include family advice and guidance from parenting contributor Anne Pleshette Murphy; personal investment and financial reports from financial expert Mellody Hobson; home maintenance and repair ideas from "house doctor" Ron Hazelton; cooking segments featuring the nation's top chefs, including Emeril Lagasse, Wolfgang Puck and Sara Moulton; and investigative reports on the latest consumer products information from consumer correspondent Elisabeth Leamy. In addition to Ms. Sawyer and Ms. Roberts, the "'Good Morning America" family includes weather forecaster Sam Champion, news anchor Chris Cuomo, senior national correspondent Claire Shipman, entertainment editor Joel Siegel, ABC News medical editor Dr. Timothy Johnson, workplace contributor Tory Johnson and technology contributor Becky Worley. Jim Murphy is the senior executive producer and Tom Cibrowski is the executive producer of ABC News "Good Morning America."
