Graham Greene stars in "Defiance" on Syfy as Rafe McCawley, a self-made success who owns and operates the largest mine in the territory. However, Rafe's status as the richest and most powerful human in the town of Defiance comes with a price, as he struggles to navigate both familial and political alliances in this precariously assembled new world.

Graham Greene is an Ontario-born Oneida Indian and the son of an ambulance driver and a maintenance man. After graduating from Toronto's Centre for Indigenous Theatre's Native Theatre School program in 1974 he got his TV debut in "The Great Detective" in 1979. Greene's first film role came in 1983's "Running Brave" but what brought him into the limelight was his role as Kicking Bird in Kevin Costner's "Dances with Wolves," which also earned him an Academy Award nomination.

Greene starred in the HBO drama "The Last of His Tribe" in 1992 as Ishi and began appearing in a recurring role on the series "The Adventures of Dudley the Dragon" as Mr. Crabby Tree. In 1995 Greene starred in "Die Hard with a Vengeance," alongside Bruce Willis and Samuel L. Jackson, and hosted the reality crime documentary show "Exhibit A: Secrets of Forensic Science."

Greene appeared in the Oscar-nominated series "The Green Mile" as a Native American on death row and then presented the documentary series "The War that Made America." Other film credits include "Thief of Time," "Thunderheart," "Benefit of the Doubt," and "Maverick," as well as the TV series "Numb3rs," "Wolf Lake," "Northern Exposure" and "The Red Green Show."

In 2005, Greene re-emerged as the potential love interest of a pre-operative transsexual woman in "Transamerica." 2007 saw him playing leading roles in the Stratford Festival productions of the "Merchant of Venice" and "Of Mice and Men." More recently, Greene has appeared in the feature films "Valley of the Sun," "Gunless," "Man on the Train," "Black Forrest," "Chasing Shakespeare" and a recurring role on the CBC TV series "Being Erica."

In 2008 Greene was awarded an honorary law degree from Wilfred Laurier University in Waterloo, Ontario Canada, which is near the Oneida reserve where he is from. In 2009 Greene appeared as Harry Clearwater in "The Twilight Saga: New Moon," and the following year, he was seen in "Casino Jack," opposite Kevin Spacey.
