Heather Petri is a water polo player competing at the 2012 London Summer Olympics for the USA.

Heather Petri plays the attacker position on the U.S. women's water polo team. She's constantly a goal-scoring threat, as evidenced by her four-goal performance at the 2011 Pan-American Games. The U.S. won that tournament to secure a berth at the London Olympics. Petri also scored five goals at the 2011 World Championships.

Petri has been on the senior national team for 12 years, and she is one of two players on the U.S. women's Olympic water polo roster (Brenda Villa is the other) who will be appearing at a fourth Olympic Games. The previous three ended with two silver (2000, 2008), and bronze (2004) medals. The U.S. team was favored to win at the Beijing Olympics but fell to the Netherlands in the gold-medal match.

Petri played for Rari-Nantes, a professional water polo team based in Florence, Italy, from 2004-2006 before returning to the U.S. to train with the national team ahead of the Beijing Games. She joined another club team in Greece after Beijing and played there until 2010. Later in 2010, Petri moved to Brazil to play for a team in Rio de Janeiro.

California has long been a hotbed for water polo, but Miramonte High School did not have a program when Petri entered high school. Petri joined the boys' varsity water polo team before becoming a founding member of the first girls team in school history. She served as team captain for two years.

Petri is extremely fond of photography, and paints an elaborate picture of her favorite photo: "For the World Championships in 2003 in Barcelona, we were training at the 1992 Olympic diving venue, which had a great view of the city and various famous monuments in the background. I took a picture of two of my teammates and our trainer jumping off three separate diving boards. All of them were in different phases of their jumps. It looks awesome." In general, she values color in her photographic objects.

One of Petri's out-of-the-pool dreams is to appear on "Oprah" or "Ellen." "I think both Oprah and Ellen are incredible examples of intelligent, powerful women who are not afraid to get out there and talk about issues, bring them into households across America and make people think in a non threatening way." Petri would be equally eager to talk about worldly issues (she supports breast cancer awareness and green initiatives) or water polo.
