Helen Hunt was born in Culver City, California, to a photographer and director. She began acting at an early age, and her early roles included an appearance on "The Mary Tyler Moore Show" as well as a recurring roles on "The Swiss Family Robinson" and "St. Elsewhere" as Clancy Williams. Hunt's first major claim to fame came with her lead role as Jamie Buchman on "Mad About You," for which she won four consecutive Emmy Awards. Helen Hunt soon followed this up with an Academy Award and Golden Globe, for the role of Carol Connelly, a waitress who falls in love with Jack Nicholson's character in the feature film, "As Good as It Gets," in 1998. She was only the second actress, after Liza Minnelli, to win a Golden Globe Award, an Academy Award and an Emmy Award in the same year. Hunt's other film credits include "Pay It Forward," with Kevin Spacey and Haley Joel Osment, "What Women Want," with Mel Gibson, and "Cast Away," alongside Tom Hanks.
