"Hell on Wheels" (TV show) on AMC is a Western drama series that is set in post-Civil War America and centers on former Confederate soldier Cullen Bohannan (Anson Mount), whose quest for vengeance has led him westward to work on the construction of the first Transcontinental Railroad.

"Hell on Wheels" tells the epic story of post-Civil War America, focusing on a Confederate soldier (Anson Mount) who sets out to exact revenge on the Union soldiers who have killed his wife. His journey takes him west to "Hell on Wheels," a dangerous, raucous, lawless melting pot of a town that travels with and services the construction of the first transcontinental railroad, an engineering feat unprecedented for its time. The series examines the railroad's institutionalized greed and corruption, the immigrant experience, and the plight of the newly emancipated African-Americans during reconstruction. Over time, "Hell on Wheels" chronicles this potent turning point in our nation's history, and how uncivilized the business of civilization can be.

Season 2

The second season continues its epic story of post-Civil War America, focusing on Cullen Bohannon (Anson Mount), a former Confederate soldier, and his dramatic journey west as he struggles to leave his past behind.

Season 3

The third season lands in the year 1867, the third year of the building of the transcontinental railroad. Cullen Bohannon leaves his vengeance-seeking behind and invests in the new American landscape ... the beginnings of big business, big religion, and the new role of Wall Street in the White House. Bohannon must contend with racism, greed and murder as he single-mindedly leads the Union Pacific in its race across the country against the Central Pacific Railroad. The high stakes corporate race, the environmental costs and degradation of the native peoples' way of life are themes that resonate deeply in today's America.

Season 4

Season 3 ended with Cullen Bohannon married to a pregnant Naomi and living in the Mormon fort where the Swede was impersonating church leader, Bishop Dutson; Thomas "Doc" Durant back in control of the Union Pacific Railroad which had successfully expanded westward to Cheyenne; and Elam, gravely injured by a bear while searching for the missing Cullen. As Season 4 unfolds, civilization makes its way west with the railroad, bringing with it men who attempt to do with their pens what rougher men did in seasons past with their guns. Conflict between government and big business, ranchers, homesteaders and the railroad will continue to define the drama as all of those interests compete with one another for control of Cheyenne, Wyoming, the "Magic City of the Plains," and the most important railroad hub in the country. The season will also introduce several new characters including John Campbell (Jake Weber, "Medium," "The Following").

The cast includes Anson Mount ("In Her Shoes," "Law & Order") as Cullen Bohannon; musician/actor Common ("Just Wright," "Date Night") as Elam Ferguson; Dominique McElligott ("The Philanthropist") as Lily Bell; Colm Meaney ("Get Him to the Greek") as Thomas "Doc" Durant; Christopher Heyerdahl as The Swede; Robin McLeavy as Eva; Tom Noonan as Reverend Cole; Ben Esler ("The Pacific") as Sean McGinnes; Philip Burke ("Law & Order," "Mercy") as Mickey McGinnes and Eddie Spears ("Into the West") as Joseph Black Moon.

"Hell on Wheels" is executive produced by Endemol USA with Entertainment One (eOne) serving as the studio. The series is created and written by Joe & Tony Gayton ("Faster," "Uncommon Valor," "Salton Sea," "Bulletproof") who also serve as executive producers, along with John Shiban ("Breaking Bad," "The X-Files") and Endemol USA's Jeremy Gold.
