After a short stay in the city of New York where he worked on the production side for the film "Bookies' Lament," Hemky returned to the Dominican Republic to star in the miniseries "Asalto en la Lincoln." Soon after, he appeared in two hit sitcoms, "Los Electrolocos" and "Ciudad Nueva."
His first theatrical performance was "Pantallas," produced and staged at Santo Domingo's Great National Theater.
Inverse Theater's production of "Icarus and Aria" came not a moment too soon after his arrival to the United States. After a series of training courses, workshops and internships at The Actors Studio and Gene Frankel Theater, he was cast in other stage productions, including"Life is a Dream," "The Mistress of the Inn," "Chronicles of a Death Foretold," "Blood Weddings," "Midnight Brainwash Revival," "Feast of the Goat," "Burning the Bridges" and "Belisa's Capriciousness."
In film, Hemky Madera has appeared opposite several renowned actors, including: Harvey Kietel, Gael Garcia Bernal and Diana Bracho in the film "Dreaming of Julia" where he portrayed a young human rights crusader in 1950s Cuba, and "The Lost City" with Andy Garcia, Dustin Hoffman and Bill Murray.
