Hill Harper stars in "CSI: NY" as Dr. Sheldon Hawkes, a role that has earned him three consecutive NAACP Image Awards.
On television, Hill Harper starred in CBS's "The Handler," for which he received a 2004 Golden Satellite Award nomination as Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series. His role in the series "City of Angels," also on CBS, brought him an NAACP Image Award nomination as Best Supporting Actor.
Harper has made numerous guest starring appearances in top shows such as "Soul Food," "The Sopranos," "ER," "NYPD Blue," "The Game" and "The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air," "Cosby" and "Married ... with Children." He starred in the miniseries "Mama Flora's Family" and the HBO movie, "Lackawanna Blues," and received critical acclaim for his performance in the independent film, "The Visit," which earned him a nomination for an Independent Spirit Award. Hill also appearanced in the films "For Colored Girls," "In Too Deep," "Beloved," "He Got Game," "Get On The Bus," "Zooman," "One Red Rose," which he co-wrote for Showtime, "Love, Sex and Eating the Bones," "America Brown," "The Badge," "Loving Jezebel," "The Nephew," "The Skulls," "Beloved" and "Hav Plenty."
Harper's theater credits include "Dogeaters" and off-Broadway productions of "Blue," "Your Handsome Captain," "Freeman" and David Mamet's "American Buffalo." Harper is a full-time member of the Black Folk's Theater Company of Boston, one of the nation's oldest and most respected African American traveling theater troupes.
Harper travels frequently as a motivational speaker and resonates with a wide range of audiences including youth, adults, and couples. Harper has been a volunteer and now is the spokesman for Big Brothers, Big Sisters. In 2006, Harper wrote the New York Times best-selling book, "Letters to a Young Brother," to provide encouragement and guidance to young black men who are still trying to find their way. After the success of the first book, Harper put together a companion book, "Letters to a Young Sister," also a New York Times best-selling project, that engages some of the strongest female voices of this generation to help Harper convey a message of hope, education and commitment for young black women. In his newest book, "The Wealth Cure: Putting Money in Its Place," also a New York Times bestseller, Harper presents a new definition of wealth, motivating readers to not only build financial security, but also achieve wealth in every other area of their lives.
Harper has been awarded an additional three NAACP Image awards for his literary accomplishments — Outstanding Literary Work: Youth/Teens (2007, 2008) and Outstanding Literary Work: Debut Author (2007). Most recently, Harper authored his first book for adults, "The Conversation: How Black Men and Women Can Build Loving, Trusting Relationships," another New York Times bestseller. Harper was also recognized as one of People Magazine's Sexiest Men Alive.
Harper graduated magna cum laude and valedictorian from Brown University and has two graduate degrees from Harvard University, a J.D. from Harvard Law School and a master's in public administration from the Kennedy School of Government.
