Howard "Woody" Carter from "Biggest Loser 2014" is one of the contestants featured in Season 16 of the NBC reality weight-loss competition series. He is a car salesman from Las Vegas, Nevada.

It was the tragic loss of his wife to cancer recently that led Howard "Woody" Carter to "The Biggest Loser." He promised he would get healthy so that he could always be there for their two daughters and two sons, ages 18-29, as well as their three grandchildren.

Carter was born in Los Angeles and grew up in Las Vegas with three younger sisters. He played football through high school and was MVP as defensive lineman, as well as being MVP of his junior high school swim team and winning a state championship in wrestling. After getting an associate's degree in music from Dixie State University and attending Missouri Southern University, Carter continued his football career in a semi-pro league and the Arena Football League, where he won a championship ring in each.

He says he has always been a big guy, but weight really became an issue the last five years of his life. He attributes the weight gain to a combination of factors, including playing football, poor diet, not exercising and a few surgeries that set him back.

Now 46 years old and 398 pounds, Woody is determined to get healthy and fulfill his promise to his wife. "I know what I have been though in life has prepared me for all obstacles," he says. He looks forward to being healthy enough to one day run a marathon.
