Ioan Gruffudd stars in "Sanctum" as Carl.

Ioan Gruffudd recently wrapped John Leguizamo's comedy "Fugly!," directed by Alfredo De Villa, and the family drama "Foster," co-starring Toni Collette and directed by Jonathan Newman. Both films are slated for release in 2011.

Gruffudd showcased his acting talents in the role of Prime Minister Tony Blair in Oliver Stone's docudrama "W.," a film about President George W. Bush's path to the presidency, which co-starred Josh Brolin and Elizabeth Banks. In 2005, he garnered attention for his performance as physicist-turned-superhero Dr. Reed Richards in "Fantastic Four," opposite Jessica Alba, followed by its sequel, "4: Rise of the Silver Surfer," in 2007.

Gruffudd began acting in his teens in his hometown of Cardiff, Wales. At 18, he enrolled at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in London and, upon graduation, began working in the United Kingdom. It was his title role in the Emmy Award-winning Horatio Hornblower miniseries that earned him international acclaim among both fans and critics.

Gruffudd's television credits include the popular British miniseries "The Forsyte Saga" and "Great Expectations," co-starring Charlotte Rampling, followed by the lead role in the adaptation of Tony Parsons' novel "Man and Boy." Gruffudd was also featured in memorable films such as James Cameron's "Titanic"; the Ridley Scott war epic "Black Hawk Down"; Antoine Fuqua's "King Arthur," co-starring Clive Owen and Keira Knightley; "Amazing Grace," co-starring Albert Finney; and Disney's "102 Dalmations," with Glenn Close.

His other film credits include the quirky comedy "The TV Set," co-starring David Duchovny and Sigourney Weaver; the British drama "The Kid," directed by Nick Moran; and the fantasy-adventure "The Secret of Moonacre," alongside Tim Curry. He also voiced the title character in the animated film "Agent Crush," co-starring Neve Campbell; was featured alongside Julia Roberts and Ryan Reynolds in "Fireflies in the Garden"; and starred in the tragic love story "Solomon & Gaenor," which was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film.

Gruffudd was recently awarded the Welsh BAFTA's Sian Phillips Award for significant contribution to film or television. He currently resides in Los Angeles.
