Ivy Higa from "Project Runway" is one of the designers competing in Season 8 of the Lifetime reality fashion design competition series. Ivy ("Project Runway 8") currently works as a fashion designer and lives in New York, New York. She was raised in Seoul, South Korea and Kaihula-Kona, Hawaii, and is now 30 years old.
The first garment Ivy Higa ever made was a purple velvet vest and printed silk skirt that she made at 13 years old for her 8th-grade student banquet. She says she was born with a sewing machine and always knew that she wanted to be a fashion designer. She says she taught herself to sew and later trained in fashion studies at Parsons, The New School for Design. She has an undergraduate degree in art and focused on ceramics at the University of Hawaii. In the past, she has worked as a personal shopper at Neiman Marcus; a design assistant at Lafayette 148; and a fabric designer for DKNY. She was one of nine finalists for the Oscars Designers Challenge.
When she's designing, she usually likes listening to house or dance music, because she loves the energy of it! But she likes a little bit of everything. She believes confidence is a fashion must and that it never goes out of fashion. She says her designer strengths are construction and taste and that she knows the details of finishing a garment impeccably.
Her favorite designers are Marc Jacobs, Consuelo Castiglioni, Stella McCartney, Issey Miyake, Junya Watanabe, and Ralph Rucci.
