"Jake and the Never Land Pirates" (Disney Junior) is a music-filled interactive treasure hunt that introduces a crew of kid pirates—leader Jake and pals Izzy and Cubby—and follows their Never Land adventures as they work to outwit two infamous characters, the one and only Captain Hook and Mr. Smee, from Disney's classic "Peter Pan."

Each episode features two 11-minute adventures as Jake and team and their lookout parrot, Skully, sail on the good ship Bucky, miles from their Pirate Island hideout on a lost treasure hunt. Along the way, they model teamwork, problem-solving and physical activity as they learn to maneuver around Hook and Smee, earning gold doubloons as they conquer tasks including crossing a muddy swamp, swinging on vines and sliding down waterfalls.

The series features original "pirate rock" music performed by The Never Land Pirate Band—comprised of Loren Hoskins and Kevin Hendrickson, whose animated alter egos, Sharky and Bones, pop up to sing pirate ditties throughout every episode. The pirate rockers also provide the title track, "Jake and the Never Land Pirates," and the musical score. Each episode concludes with a live action music video featuring The Never Land Pirate Band performing a song including "Talk Like a Pirate," "Hot Lava" and "Ah, Coconuts!"

Each tale begins with Jake and his friends in the midst of a fun activity, such as a birthday party, playing with something new washed up on shore or enjoying something that's already special to Jake and his crew, like their Pirate Island hideout. Hook sees how much fun Jake and his crew are having and identifies the source as a treasure that he must get his hands on. With help from viewers at home, Jake and his crew must solve pirate problems during an action-packed quest to reclaim their treasure. For each task completed, the team receives gold doubloons, and by the end of the adventure, Captain Hook's plan is foiled.

Like all Disney Junior programming, "Jake and the Never Land Pirates" is guided by an established curriculum that nurtures multiple areas of child development: physical, emotional, social and cognitive; thinking and creative skills as well as moral and ethical development. Teamwork is central to the show's curriculum, and throughout the series, Jake and his team model friendship and collaborative behavior. Each friend brings unique and valuable attributes that combine to create a smart, strong, resourceful and fun team. For example, Jake is the confident leader who knows how best to use the strengths of his crew, Cubby's use of maps point the team in the right direction, and Izzy is always full of ideas and finds creative ways to solve problems such as transforming found items into useful tools. Plus, Izzy has Pixie Dust, a magic powder that allows Jake and his crew to fly. Skully is the best lookout a pirate ever had and their trusty ship Bucky helps by taking the crew where they need to go.

"Jake and the Never Land Pirates" encourages kids to be active learners and much of the curriculum focuses on modeling physical activity for young viewers. When the team needs to get ahead of Hook and his men on a treasure quest, Jake will ask the kids at home to "Slide-slide-slide!" along with his crew or help Bucky steer by moving "To the left!" When the heroes are sprinkled with Pixie Dust, Jake asks the viewer to lift their arms and fly along with them.

Mathematical concepts are also built into the show. Through its interactive beats and gold doubloon reward system, "Jake and the Never Land Pirates" provides viewers with opportunities to count, predict, sort, follow patterns and to explore shapes, relative size, relative location and relative distance. The use of simple maps introduces young children to the concepts of directionality, navigation and landmark recognition. All of these concepts are the building blocks for the development of mathematical reasoning.

Voicing the cast of characters are: Colin Ford as Jake; Madison Pettis as Izzy; Jonathan Morgan Heit as Cubby; David Arquette as Skully; Corey Burton as Captain Hook; Jeff Bennett as Mr. Smee and Bones; and Loren Hoskins and Sharky. The recurring voice cast includes: Tori Spelling as the Pirate Princess; Lisa Loeb as Winger; Ariel Winter ("Modern Family") as Marina the Mermaid and Adam West as the Wise Old Parrot.

Many of the key creative professionals behind the Emmy-nominated hit series "Mickey Mouse Clubhouse," among many others, are at the helm of "Jake and the Never Land Pirates," including executive producer Rob LaDuca; producer/story editor Mark Seidenberg; voice director Kelly Ward and director Howy Parkins.
