James Naughton stars in "Hostages" on CBS as President Paul Kincaid.

James Naughton is perhaps best known for his stage work, for which he has won two Tony Awards. He won his first for Best Actor in a Musical in 1990 for "City of Angels," for which he also received the Drama Deak Award, and his second for playing Billy Flynn in the musical "Chicago" in 1997. He also won NY Drama Critics Theatre World and Vernon Rice awards for his work in "Long Day's Journey into Night." Other theatrical credits include Broadway's "Democracy," "Prymate," "Whose Life Is It Anyway?" and "I Love My Wife," and off-Broadway's "No Strings."

Naughton has also directed several plays, including Broadway's revival of "Our Town," starring Paul Newman, "The Price," which was nominated for a Tony Award in 2000 for Best Revival of a Play, and off-Broadway's "Filumena" at the Blue Light Theatre.

On television, Naughton recently played the recurring role of William van der Bilt in The CW's "Gossip Girl." He starred in several short-lived television series, including CBS's "Planet of the Apes," ABC's medical drama "Trauma Center," CBS's comedies "Raising Miranda" and "Making the Grade," and his very first series, NBC's "Faraday and Company." He has also recurred in "Ally McBeal," "Big Apple," "The Cosby Mysteries," "Brooklyn Bridge" and "Who's the Boss?" Guest appearances include "Blue Bloods," "Warehouse 13," "Damages," "Law & Order: Special Victims Unit," "Out of Practice," "Law & Order: Criminal Intent," "Law & Order" and "Designing Women."

Film credits include "The Devil Wears Prada," "The First Wives Club," "The Glass Menagerie," "The Paper Chase," "The Good Mother," "Cat's Eye" and "First Kid."

Naughton is also a recording artist who won the 1999 Ace Award for Best Male Vocalist for "Street of Dreams" and released the solo album "It's About Time" on DRG Records.
