Jay Hernandez emerged onto the Hollywood scene opposite Kirsten Dunst in the 2001 film "Crazy/Beautiful." Since then Jay Hernandez  has starred in a number of films, including Disney's sleeper hit, "The Rookie," opposite Dennis Quaid, "Torque" with Ice Cube, "Ladder 49" with Joaquin Phoenix and John Travolta, and the inspiring action drama "Friday Night Lights," alongside Billy Bob Thornton.

Jay Hernandez was seen in the disturbing psychological thriller "Hostel." Premiering at the Toronto Film Festival in September 2006 to rave reviews, the film opened No. 1 at the box office in January, displacing two blockbusters ("The Chronicles of Narnia" and "King Kong") that had been competing at the top of the chart for a month. Jay Hernandez played the sole survivor of a post-collegiate "right-of-passage" backpacking trip to Europe gone horribly wrong, as the men quickly become victims in an underground ring of human trafficking and sex tourism.

Jay Hernandez also appeared in the Oliver Stone 9/11 project, "World Trade Center." The story follows three New York City Port Authority officers (played by Nicolas Cage, Michael Pena and Jay Hernandez) who volunteered to enter the World Trade Center after the planes were flown into the towers.

Jay Hernandez was also in the historical epic "Nomad," an independent feature set in 18th-century Kazakhstan, which debuted in Cannes and was distributed by the Weinstein Company. 

In 2006, Jay Hernandez was also in the short-lived ABC series, "Six Degrees."

Unlike many of his contemporaries, Jay Hernandez didn't grow up with the dream of moving to Hollywood to become an actor. Born and raised in Montebello, California with his two older brothers and younger sister, as clichéd as it sounds, Jay Hernandez was discovered in an elevator by a talent manager when he was 18 years old. In a short time,  Jay Hernandez's career has blossomed; it has only been seven years since his first acting role on the popular Saturday-morning television show, "Hang Time." Jay Hernandez is now noted as one of the few Latino leading men in the entertainment industry, and has had the honor of working with some of the most in-demand writers, directors, producers and actors of his time.
