A seasoned stage actor as well, Sanders made his 1976 off-Broadway debut in Shakespeare in Park's production of "Henry V" and "Measure for Measure," both featuring Meryl Streep. He spent the new two years performing in D.C.'s Arena Stage and San Francisco's A.C.T. productions. He appeared in the New York premiere of Sam Shepard's "Buried Child" and debuted on Broadway three years later, opposite Kevin Kline, in "Loose Ends." Other highlights of his long theater career include Broadway roles in "St. Joan," "Pygmalion," and as George W. Bush in David Hare's provocative "Stuff Happens."
The Austin Texas native graduated from the State University of New York (SUNY) at Purchase, known for its acting program, and made his feature film debut in 1979 in Alan Pakula's "Starting Over."
