Jeff Hemann from "Dead End Express" stars in the National Geographic Channel reality docu-series.

Dog Musher Jeff Hemann is lucky to have found his calling at a young age — and with thirty huskies now under his command, he is the master of his art. But like all routes to Alaska, Jeff's path from Iowa was no straight line. Fresh out of high school, Jeff was vying for a place in the US Olympic Taekwondo team. He had never even owned a dog until a chance winter job in Minnesota put him at the helm of a whole team. But after moving north to the home of the Alaskan Husky, he's never looked back.

Over the last 9 years, Jeff has bred his pack from the finest pedigree of world class runners — lead dog Charlie's folks raced the Iditarod. And these dogs can pull twice their own bodyweight at speeds up to 25 mph, in subzero conditions. That means if a load normally takes ten dogs to haul, Jeff only needs five. With all the feeding, cleaning, vaccinations and nail-clipping, caring for canines is no walk in the park. Luckily for Jeff, his wife Heather is also an expert musher — they met at a taekwondo class, and were soon breeding their dogs together. At 35 years old Jeff now has two families to keep him on his toes: his wife and their kids ... and a whole kennel of huskies.
