Jenifer Lewis stars in "The Playboy Club" on NBC as Pearl, the club's seamstress who's been there since day one.

Lewis is one of Hollywood's busiest actresses with over 60 films and 200 television appearances to her credit. Her uniquely recognizable voice is adored by fans worldwide in animated roles such as Flo in the films "Cars" and "Cars 2" and as Mama Odie in "The Princess and The Frog." She was also heard in Dreamworks' "Shark Tale."

The majority of her career has taken place on the Broadway stage, where Lewis performed in such hits as "Eubie," "Comin' Uptown," "Hairspray," as Motormouth Maybelle, "Dreamgirls," "Rock and Roll, the First 5,000 Years," and the revival of Neil Simon's "Promises, Promises." Lewis also appeared on stage opposite Meryl Streep in Shakespeare in the Park's summer production of "Mother Courage and her Children." She has performed her acclaimed one-woman show, "The Diva is Dismissed," worldwide.

On film, Lewis has garnered two NAACP Image Award nominations as Best Supporting Actress for her memorable portrayal of Tina Turner's mother in "What's Love Got to Do With It" and the romantic comedy "The Preacher's Wife," opposite Denzel Washington. Thanks to such memorable performances, she earned the title "Black Mother of Hollywood." In 2010 she portrayed the distraught mother, Candace, opposite Matt Damon in Clint Eastwood's "Hereafter." She has appeared in more than sixty motion pictures, including "Corinna Corinna," "Renaissance Man," "The Mighty," "Sister Act," "Mystery Men," "Dead Presidents," "Poetic Justice" and "Not Easily Broken." For director Tyler Perry, Lewis created unforgettable characters in "Madea's Family Reunion" and "Meet the Browns." She also portrayed a small, yet notable, role as Tom Hanks' boss in "Castaway."

In fall 2011, she plays a featured role in the telefilm "Project Five," under the helm of first-time director Alicia Keys. As an activist, Lewis is proud to support Project Five's breast cancer awareness themes. She also participates in mental health causes and chose the stage to publicly disclose being bipolar by writing and starring in a successful one-woman show "Bipolar Bath and Beyond." She went on to appear on "The Oprah Winfrey Show," and has become a fierce advocate for diagnosis and proper treatment of the disorder.

Lewis's versatility is at the heart of her long and diverse career. Her television roles have ranged from regular appearances as Aunt Helen on "The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air" to guest-starring roles on "Friends," "Boston Legal" and "Girlfriends." For six seasons, she portrayed Lana Hawkins on the popular cable series "Strong Medicine." Additionally, she achieved "Diva" status as star of the cable mock-umentary "Jackie's Back!"
