Joel Courtney stars in "Super 8," opposite Kyle Chandler and Elle Fanning, as Joe. The sci-fi thriller is directed by J.J. Abrams.

At fourteen years old, Joel Courtney visited Los Angeles for a summer hoping to take an acting class and maybe audition for a few commercials. Unexpectedly, he scored an audition for a starring role in "Super 8" and booked a leading role for his professional acting debut.

When not acting, 15-year-old Courtney attends middle school in Idaho, and enjoys playing basketball, lacrosse, and running track. He has also been a competitive swimmer since the age of four. With a leading role in one of the most hotly anticipated films of 2011, the sky is the limit for this talented young actor.
