Joel McKinnon Miller stars in "Brooklyn Nine-Nine" on FOX as Detective Scully.

Joel McKinnon Miller was previously seen on the HBO drama series "Big Love" for five seasons. A native of Minnesota, Miller began acting in high school and went on to pursue opera and theater in college. In 1985, he was invited to join John Houseman's prestigious The Acting Company. He toured with the company across the United States for the next three years. After coming off the road, he landed in New York City, where he worked off-Broadway and in regional theater.

In 1991, Miller and his family moved to Los Angeles. Since guest-starring on the hit series "Murphy Brown," he has been a ubiquitous presence in film and television, with roles in series "American Horror Story" and "Las Vegas," and films "Super 8" and "Rush Hour 2." Recent guest appearances include TNT's "Mob City," Disney Channel's "Good Luck Charlie," ABC Family's "Melissa & Joey" and FOX's "Glee."
