John Beasley stars in "The Soul Man" on TV Land as Barton.
A family man who enjoyed performing in local theater productions, John Beasley worked as a Union Pacific railroad clerk for seven years before he decided to pursue acting as a full-time career. He is perhaps best known for playing Irv Harper for all four seasons of The WB's drama "Everwood." He more recently played a recurring role on HBO's "Treme."
On the big screen, he was seen opposite Dwayne Johnson in "Walking Tall," alongside Ben Affleck in "The Sum of All Fears," opposite John Travolta in "The General's Daughter" and co-starred with Melanie Griffith in "Crazy in Alabama," directed by Antonio Banderas. It was his performance opposite Robert Duvall in "The Apostle" that gained him wide spread recognition as an actor.
In the critically acclaimed TNT film, "Freedom Song," Beasley turned in a strong performance as Jonas Summer, a role originally written for James Earl Jones. Other film credits include "Rudy," "The Mighty Ducks," Sam Raimi's "The Gift" and "Untamed Heart."
On television, he has appeared on "Detroit 1-8-7," "Harry's Law," "CSI: Miami," "Boston Legal," "NCIS," "Judging Amy" and "CSI: Crime Scene Investigation."
A resident of Omaha, Nebraska, with a strong stage background, Beasley began his professional career at the Mixed Blood Theatre in Minneapolis, Minnesota. He has performed several productions at Chicago's Goodman Theatre, and in August Wilson's "Jitney" at Alliance Theatre in Atlanta, Georgia.
