John Orozco is a gymnast competing at the 2012 London Summer Olympics for the USA. He is the 2012 U.S. champion and the 2011 world team bronze medalist.

John Orozco's lifelong dream of being named to the Olympic Team was realized when he finished second at the Olympic Trials. Fresh off his first U.S. title, Orozco counted a couple missed routines in San Jose, but his all-around performance was more than enough to earn him a trip to London where he could contend for an all-around medal.

Orozco's contributions on four events (pommel, rings, p-bars, and high bar) helped Team USA claim the bronze medal at 2011 Worlds in Tokyo. In his debut, Orozco also qualified in second place for the all-around behind two-time world champ Kohei Uchimura. Nicknamed 'Sninja' for 'Silent Ninja,' Orozco was a surprise star in Tokyo for his quiet, but consistent performances. Despite a few mistakes in all-around finals, he finished a solid fifth place and less than a point from the podium.

Orozco won the all-around bronze medal at the 2011 VISA Championships. Despite stinging his Achilles' tendon night one on his first event, floor, Orozco persevered and landed on the podium. He picked up a silver medal on parallel bars and finished third on pommel horse. Orozco also earned a spot on his first World Team.

Orozco competed in his first senior international meet in July 2011 at Japan Cup. He performed on four of six events in the team competition, helping the U.S. to a silver medal behind the hosts from Japan. Orozco earned the second highest score on pommel horse.

In December 2010, he moved his training-base from his native Bronx, New York to the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colorado. Before moving to the OTC, Orozco commuted 30 miles (plus New York traffic) to his gym for more than seven years. By training in Colorado, he hopes to realize his dreams, which include winning an Olympic all-around title.

On August 11, 2010, Orozco tore his Achilles tendon on a vault during prelims at the VISA Championships. "When I stood up, I knew something was wrong, but I didn't think it was that bad," Orozco said. He was completely away from the gym for three months and did not begin tumbling until eight months into his recovery. Orozco says the hardest events to get back were floor and vault.

He says his favorite thing about gymnastics is the feeling of flying he gets while on high bar, one of his favorite events along with the parallel bars.

Orozco believes he can help Team USA the most on the pommel horse, and event that is ironically the "Achilles heel" of the men's team. He has increased his start value on the event and is working on cleaner execution in hopes of contributing on that event.

Orozco won three-straight U.S. junior (14-15) titles before moving up to the senior ranks in 2009. In August 2010, Sports Illustrated named him as one of 16 "Stars of Tomorrow."

Orozco was a black belt in Tae Kwon Do before his 10th birthday. When his father saw him dong flips and splits, he decided to introduce John to gymnastics after seeing a flyer for free lessons at a Manhattan gym.
